and the puffin said 'fweem'

we love our good friends (well, ever since we resolved that pesky blood feud thing) hidari (listen), but, we'll be the first to admit that they are easily distractable. moments after they penned their latest epic rock anthem, we posed this question: does chuck norris need both hands to count to infinity? predictably, they all whipped out their slide rules, as they argued amongst themselves christina and i slipped quietly away with the lyrics to our newest cover: 'monkey in a bucket' (lyrics below the fold)

terry hopper and i will be playing under the stars (and the occasional comet, perhaps even a neutron star) tomorrow (friday) night at the bridgeport, ct discovery museum's planetarium. a live-looped leap-day synth-fest galore will be yours from 7pm - 9pm, stop by and check it out. (it's free!) (map)

return your regret

i reworked the tunage for 'return your regret'.

kinda gomez-y, with some dmb perhaps, and christina dead center, of course.

the title 'ryr' often reminds me of a bloom county strip where milo inquires about his missing sense of innocence at the lost and found counter.

who is the sign for?

the above has been floating round the s.o.t. for a bit now, but, it just hit me: who made this sign? why? for who? to prevent what?

conclusion? fauxtoshoppery, of course.

for some reason, i'm now compelled to tell you to check out laurie king's take on sherlock holmes, i think it is called 'the beekeeper's apprentice'. smart steampunk chicks rule.

(now returning to your regularly scheduled bloggery)

christina and i will be jamming on groundhog's day, so keep the ears peeled for some new songs soon.

the latest batch of instrumentals includes 'emote hunger' and 'children's song'.

double down, quick

happy new year to you, gentle reader, may this post find you well.

we'll start this one with a special latin-flavored hba-nebulae joint, if you went by the moniker of 'bondo, diego bondo', you'd roll with this track blasting on the stereo of your aston martin.

radio free hba

89.5fm wpkn in bridgeport ct

some quick notes and tracks -

the chillmost de-mix of 'failure' is here.
(picture a female fronted velvet underground playing a smoky club in hamburg, germany. that nate (chillmost) is _such_ a tease.) henning thomsen on drums.

the kemiso mix of 'fade in fade out' is here.
(i love this mix, like crazy, but it may take a couple of listens for it to percolate on thru the old bean)

the hba had our westchester radio premiere tonight on wxpk-fm 107.1fm the peak. i think they played chilltower, unfortunately i missed it. the show 'next', hosted by chris bro, will be rebroadcast at 8pm on sunday.

terry hopper and i (sans christina, unfortunately) will be playing live on wpkn thursday afternoon, 3pm-ish. we may have a guest or two, we'll be doing our live-looping thing, please tune in 89.5fm if you're up in fairfield, ct.

christina and i will be making new music for you this weekend, tune back early next week for some preliminary mixes.

here's a few recent instrumentals: 'surfer girl', 'in these shoes' and 'the lair of the meme-folk'.

it's progess in motion ;-)

'fade in, fade out - (the progress in motion mix)' can be found here (with psa) or at the street of aimes (without):

why do we make 'feel good' music about the end of the world? we were talking about that during our last session and couldn't come up with an answer. we are both quite convinced that the world is ending right here, right now, right around us.

maybe we're like the band on the titanic, playing every song like it is the last one. actually, i want the gig on fhloston paradise, or at the restaurant at the end of the universe. (nice douglas adams interview re: his radical atheism here)

in any case, 'fifo' is probably just the right track to listen to on the lifeboat, as your ipod's batteries wind down, and the remnants of man's folly sink quietly off in the distance. ;-)

sippin' on some severus

christina reminisces about her time at hogwarts (she seems to be quite familiar with a number of the bedchambers therein) on our latest track.

apparently, she acquired a taste for some kind of beverage there called 'severus'.

it's quite a thirst, actually.

listen here:

or download here

the amie street version is psa-free. and, for the next 24-48 hours, it will also be 'free' free ($).

we'll put together a special hba gift pack with lots of fun stuff from new york for the best 'sippin severus' fan vid you guys submit.....

how do you get what you are?

we've got a crazy new piece of gear in the studio - basically a black box, you run your audio through it, there's 2 dials and a switch. usually i don't go for this type of stuff, i'm trying to jettison gear in order to get our traveling rig down to a motorcycle-friendly size. _but_ this friggin' thing is amazing. forget vacuum tubes, forget $5k microphones, if you mix music, you need this thing.

first out, i ran an old abbott tune called 'aces high' through it, setting the dials to '1994' and 'london', and the delusional war-mongering president switch to 'off'. return your regret is what emerged, all loaded with oodles of massive-attacky goodness. unbelievable.

then, practically on a whim, i cued up 'failure', setting the dials to '1965' and 'haight-ashbury'. the switch clicked ominously as i flipped it on. this is the unadulterated result, i'll call it the 'summerlove' mix.

that's guitarist oscar sanchez on colors and shapes.

'failure' must be working, i'm seeing far fewer 'w' stickers these days. the original 'nebulae's lament mix' of failure is here.

models: super, business, ptolemaic

we here at hba labs™ are going to adapt our business model a bit and do a test.

as before, mixes will be posted here as they emerge. however, they will contain 'public service announcements' (so to speak). high-res, unencumbered mixes will be posted at amie street. if we get increased revenue from amie street, this will continue. if paypal donations increase, we'll revert back to the original model and ditch the psa's. we do understand that there is a third possibility.

it's really a pain to mix down different versions, wouldn't it be nicer if we could spend that time making more music for you? all we need is for you to cover the bandwidth costs, and help us roll out our plan to play live, in your living room, on our 'greener than you are, dollface' tour (more details soon, ny-based bands interesting in co-headlining contact kim@hotbitcharsenal.com, use the subject 'dollface'). thanks.

anyway, without further ado, here are sailing on right by and daydreams for dollars.

ego almost in check, i'll just say that these represent our best work so far.

dan ash plays banjo and guitar on 'daydreams'.

look for more mixes from our session last weekend to be up soon, i'm especially looking forward to neb's remix of 'double down quick'.

forget obama in '08, the hba endorses pelosi in '07

my roommate paul bernhardt has got an exhibition of paintings up at the dolly maass gallery @ suny purchase. it's worth checking out, he's done some fine fine stuff.

this is the last weekend of my photo exhibition at the artists in the country gallery, 52 county road, west woodstock, ct. if you hail from boston/providence/hartford and you're looking to burn some fossil fuels it is worth checking out. aside from my prints, there is some excellent pottery (as above by emine cichowski) (doesn't he look just like robert de niro?), cool paintings too. you will find this google map to be indispensible in locating the gallery, which is situated just east of lake bungee in the only rural pocket left between boston and dc.

christina and i have a session scheduled for early may, so keep close by for some brand new tracks.

recent instrumentals include 'ocean banafsheh' and 'ankara time'

a crafty sploit, a little invention, a most excellent photoshoot

the sploit:
when shipping a laptop today via ups i devised this scheme: ship a package insured for big bucks. rig the package so that its label swaps itself for another, either after a few hours, or, preferably, by remote control. wait until the package shows up on the ups site as scanned, trigger the label swap (heat/time activated invisible ink? scrolling mechanism?), report the package as undelivered, collect your (insurance fraud tainted) money.

the invention:
a button that is worn by the deaf which provides a vibratory alert when it detects siren sounds (building/fire/smoke/police).

the photoshoot:
isobel is beautiful, mysterious, and, like all great steampunk grrls, scientifically curvaceous.

the bonus track:
here is 'double down quick', 'you show me the way', and 'all along the chilltower' from the last bit of our set on new year's eve. i've trimmed out a bit of fluff, and tweaked the mastering.

hello, i'm kim. i'll be your dj tonight.

flutterbys

merry christmas, gentle blog readers. may it find you and yours safe and sound.

i have no xmas photos for you, my camera is in the shop. so, butterflys it tis.

we're playing red square albany on new year's eve! the exact time is tbd, probably 9-ish. this will be a short, upbeat, dance-y set, probably including music don't stop, from the start, you bet i will , failure, double 'a', triple 'x' (nsfw), and some variant of cantaloop/rhythm-carry.

we'll be doing a sound check thursday afternoon/early evening - please stop by and say hi - we'll buy you a beer.

bronx bfly

some year-end hba stats:
top 'hit' (12,649 listens so far this year) 'all along the chilltower'
50,000+ unique visits to the download page this year, an average of 151/day.

(bandwidth costs $, so why don't you take a few moments and give us two bucks, or maybe five if you're feeling flush). take the music, leave the cash, that's the plan. it's like an old fashioned roadside fruit and vegetable stand, except for tunes.

thanks to all of you who have already donated or purchased the cd at i-tunes or

death, bush (what _is_ he thinking?) and webspace

my friend louise died a couple of weeks ago. it was leukemia. she went bravely, and much more calmly than i'd imagine i would. please think a kind thought for her and her family.

a quick iraq bit: i see 2 options. either we send in a minimum of 150,000 new troops, or we leave. it's really that simple. adding 25,000 or even 50,000 will NOT get us to anything remotely resembling 'victory'. the reality is that it's gotta be at least 150,000, or face facts and pack it in, send the troops home.

it has been a bit crazy here at hba hq south. we kept on hitting the monthly bandwidth limit for our webspace (thanks for listening!) so i moved it all over to a new hosting service, things are not yet fully functional. audio and video content should return in another day or two. if you've tried to email us over the last week or two please resend - we probably didn't get it.

the factory is humming and buzzing - there's a lot of new music afoot, we'll post asap. also, i'm putting the finishing touches on our talkback/in ear monitoring system, which will hopefully get rolled out live very soon. the system will allow christina and i to talk about hot pockets while we perform.

our newest dvd is going to have an alternate soundtrack, which will be our onstage chatter, and will probably consist only of obscure hot pocket and yam references. oh yeah, and yak parts.

lastly, i have a photo exhibit coming together up at red square in albany. more details soon. there will be many photos of the hot bitches from whence we draw our name. you know who you are, if you're up that way, stop on by.

happy birthday, me.

wouldya check out the arsenal on that hb?

karen poleshuck and her weapon of choice joined me in the studio tonight. we made you this long (15min+) jam, the last bit of a much longer jam, all spontaneous improvisation, using just a cello, some drum loops and ableton live.

it definitely has movie soundtrack written all over it. in the movie, jimi hendrix blows lazy blue smoke rings over the strings of her cello as karen plays, turning it at times into a sitar, and later a french horn, and at the end into a chorus of merpeople.

speaking of choice weaponry, if i had one of these i think i might be able to initiate, and possibly maintain, world peace.

shall we render, miss moneypenny?

dn-1-1504-miss-moneypenny

i've had my moneypenny forever, she's kind of a basic model, perhaps a bit stodgy, but (to me) quite the hot bitch nonetheless.

nebulae went all out when he configured his, he got all the options, plus the custom lara croft coachwork and the max-sass rom module.

i imagine their checklist going something like this:
nebulae: (sauve) sick beats?
moneypenny: (sultry) check.
nebulae: (idly flicking a mote of dust from his lapel) majestic strings?
moneypenny: (adjusting her thigh holster) check.
nebulae: (thanking the fsm for thigh holsters) boldly cinematic in scope?
moneypenny: (over her sunglasses) most assuredly.
nebulae: (suddenly concerned) proper bits of delay throughout?
moneypenny: (calmly) check.
nebulae: (insouciantly) shall we render then, miss moneypenny?
moneypenny: (unbuttoning, pressing [ctrl]-[shift]-r) absolutely. rendering at 32 bits, 44,100 kilohertz.

the 'nebulae's lament remix' of 'failure' is here.

listen loud, on decent speakers or with good headphones. trust me. unbelievable production, majestic just begins to describe it (the strings!), christina's vox is lovingly layered throughout, she is at the top of her form.

you will want to hear more nebulae/hba remixes, so show him some love in the comments.

finally, this is beyond debate.

gonna argue with me? gonna invoke the name 'clinton'?

moron.

baker's panel rules out iraq victory. (yes, that would be baker, jimmy baker, former secretary of state under daddums).

want more?

before 9/11, bush, rice, rumsfeld, and ashcroft were repeatedly warned of the impending attacks. they did nothing. (and stop it already with the 'no one could have foreseen'. of course it was foreseen. it is moronic to pretend otherwise.)

on september 18, 2001, christie todd whitman, flanked by rudy guiliani, told all those families that "the air is safe to breathe", move back home, go back to work, go back to school. (as if i need to say this: absolutely disgusting, sociopathic behavior)

pretty badass if you stop to think about it

my niece michelle, just turned 7, on what she'll be doing when she's 80 (immediately after i describe her as using a cane to get around) - "i'll have a show on animal planet and travel to africa, go into the jungle, sneak up on the lions and whack them on the penis with my cane."

she is a serious ratings genius - imagine the demographics - who wouldn't watch a show where some old lady sneaks up on wild animals and whacks them on the penis with her cane?

i don't want to wait till she's 80 to see the show. i hope there are still lions then.

[/semi obscure reference alert] there's (hopefully) a little bit of dame marjorie chardin in everyone, but i think that michelle has several extra helpings.

while you're waiting for animal planet to pick up michelle's show, you can watch all of our recent videos, thoughtfully gathered together here for your viewing convenience.

we've pretty much banked it all on splenda

collage1

as we idly sit by and watch him drive the bus off the cliff, one wonders what we'll need in a post-bushcolyptic society. duct tape and binder clips are obvious necessities, but hba purchasing has also been instructed to lay in a large store of sumatra, splenda and enough of those little diner packets of half and half to last us until the end of time.

while you watch the war machine gear up (us navy issues 'prepare to deploy' order), turn the volume down on cnn, and up on hba, specifically this (mp3), which is called 'flame to the fuses'.

personnel: nate russell and joe martin on guit (both time-traveling forward from a 'pre 9/11' jam). steve detroy provides nuance.

these grooves last surfaced on titan (mp3), which reminds us that although john kerry is a douchebag, we should have voted for him anyway. leanne handelsman on vocals.

however, in their nascent form, they comprised bib and sissy, (mp3) the original zaubi/russell/galibert joint. sharon zaubi on vocals.

1IMG_1413

asking yourself not "what the hba can do for you", but, "what you can do for the hba"? here's a list:
1) find us a kick ass halloween gig
2) give our music to your independent film producing/directing friend
3) keep our music on your thumbdrive, pass it on, collect a dollar or 2, paypal us when you hit $25 and we'll send you a sweet hba goodie bag.

we'll play any pro-choice/anti-war/lgbt/climate change or like event for free (audiences of 200+)

this (wmv) is 'circus clown' and '6 underground' from our live performance shoot friday night at the lmc-tv studios. quicktime is here.

you start by counting backwards

here's a brand new tune called forward to war. i can't really think of a way to describe it aside from this: if you heard it on the radio, you'd say 'i reckon that that's gotta be the hba'. but, when you listen to it right here and now, you'll say 'that's not like anything i've ever heard them do'.

speaking of the radio, please send a polite 'play the hba' request to mail@kcrw.org. we just mailed off some disks, and if there is one radio station in the world i'd like to hear spin the hba, it's kcrw. you can listen here, if you like them, please donate, they're in the middle of their pledge drive.

you can hear roscoe bark twice at the very end of this righteous mix of lines blur.

make yourself a dang quesadilla

my god, it's full of stars! (2)

i love my guitar. my guitar lets you switch into open tunings by pressing a pedal. my guitar could kick your guitar's ass if it was that type of guitar. but it's not. instead, it makes things like this, which i will call 'make yourself a dang quesadilla'. if you'd like to make yourself a dang quesadilla start here.

occasionally christina will incorporate my song titles into her lyrics. i find this to be quite thrilling. examples include 'you show me the way' and 'all along the chilltower'. sometimes the names of the songs i write are quite obvious. tonight, less so. i thought of using 'don't cry for me, orangina'. but i settled on 'make yourself...'. we'll see what christina comes up with.

January 14, 2006

thought criminal

i love it that my phase shifter of choice has an 'earth' button. i don't know what it does, and i'm scared to touch it. i'm figuring that it doesn't turn the earth on or off, or swap the north pole for the south. if i had to guess, i'd say that clicking 'earth' will transport me there.

this is a little ditty tentatively titled 'thought criminal'.

christina & timyo are away for the weekend, so i'm restocking the hba strategic groove reserves.

January 08, 2006

and that is why i am her bitch

think about it.

here's how it usually works. i loop late into the evening. if lucky, one or two jams emerge. the next evening (early, cause she goes to bed when old people do) christina shows up. her rider states that she is to have headphones, fresh blank paper (any sort), and a half-hour. she scribbles, jots, she draws little stick figures. i hit record. two or three takes later we have a song. i don't know how she does it. no one else i've ever worked with does it like this.

the nearest thing i can compare it to is a 4-d crossword puzzle. cause it's all about the words, fitting them together, working out melodies and syncopation in her head. i watch carefully, sometimes i review the video (just in case she's cheating somehow - tesseracting off to 2046, hanging out for a week on the beach, leisurely checking futuristic cyber rhyming dictionaries, then popping back to the studio to lay down the track).

but this isn't a movie and she's not like you or me. and when the words come out they smile at their new neighbors, happy to find themselves next to each other, and secure in the knowledge that they belonged there the whole time.

hanging with abbott is like hanging with dali or da vinci or picasso, and that is why i am her bitch.

this is andrea nettleton-kirkman in an acapella live looping version of herbie hancock's watermelon man (windows media). quicktime is here. this one is pretty amazing - she completely nailed it on the lucky 13th take.

you should click here if you'd like me to read you o'henry's 'gift of the magi'. (i'm still polishing my audio book voice)

i defy you not to smile as you listen to we will all be made of white carbs

and one last oldie - late last year mike doughty (really!) put 'titan' (mp3 audio) up on his blog (we're still getting hundreds of hits). it features leanne handelsman spontaneously extemporizing about stealing john kerry's $8,000 bicycle and its contents, his wife's real name (teresa titan heinz kerry ketchup), freaky people with humpbacks, and peanut butter and jelly sandwich eating tactics. music by nate, joe and yt. and that is stevie d looking for his bitches and ho's and tricks.

before i jumped

stonewindsea

in the movie, there are spirits. they have no substance, they move around us, they observe us, they are us after we die.

and, in this movie, they are named with their last living words. thus, we get to meet a 'geronimo', and a 'two twenty volt!' and a fair number of 'oh shits'. at the end of the movie, as the credits roll, we'll do a 'last living moments' reel. the audience will get to see 'that smell', 'not loaded', 'charging rhino' and 'nice doggie' buy the farm. if we do it right, they'll have tears streaming down as people die horribly, one after another.

so - please log a comment and submit your 'last name'. we'll need a lot of them. i used to have a list somewhere ......

apparently we were in a melancholy mood this weekend.

it's relative (same time, same time)

esb amazing circle

we went thru some kind of thirteenth mooonth transformation (tranceformation?) this weekend. we're just getting settled-in with the new personas and all, so it is early, and all i can tell you is that the music we made tonight has got to be what the mondoshawans* listen to on long interstellar space journeys. they crank it up until the whole ship buzzes (you should too! - cause we made it to be played that way). if you do it right, you'll see them them nodding along to the beat.

*(think 'multipass')

anyway, it's relative. (mp3 audio - right-click, 'save link as' if you want your very own copy)

'same time, same time'
church lets out
every sunday
same time, same time

hands up
up in arms
same time, same time

smoke and mirrors
thieves
same time, same time

corner store
discount price
same time, same time

watching it thru broken windows
passing by streets, shadows
next stop is the last one i go
other angles we take it out of
context baby it's plain and simple
relative is relative

sunsets
every evening
same time, same time

mirage
every second
same time, same time

drought comes
in every desert
same time, same time

i search
for answers
same time, same time

cat circle

sometimes the mondoshawans visit easter island and turn their large headed friends back to flesh for a solstice party. as the sun sets, and the firelight takes over, this (mp3 audio) plays and echoes around. it is called 'ask again in twenty minutes'. (lyrics to follow).

creeped out. quiet. twelve a.m.

this is called 'creeped out, quiet, twelve a.m.'.

and this is a 'live' version of 'lines blur'.

both of the above are rough mixes, tweaking to follow. and - secretly jess was back in the studio today giving us more violin-y goodness. (can you ever get enough violin-y goodness?)

last night's ghost guest in residence was the scrawny spirit of tom waits. tonight's might have been thomas builds the fire. his song is here.

lyrics for 'creeped out'
let it fester in
i am hester prynne
on her darkest day
head held high in squares
scarlet letters matching stares

and i, never one to brag
must let you know it's in the bag
i mustered up all that i had
and turned it into gold

bird flew out of her own nest
you expected this i guess
creeped out, quiet, 12am
waited 'til the light came in

riddles now, i'm not obvious
i'd be doomed if i were less
particular and present tense
i try not to think far ahead
but keep eyes opened up
living it like 'life or bust'
there is no one you can trust
when everyone has shifted such

bird flew out of her own nest
you expected this i guess
creeped out, quiet, 12am
waited 'til the light came in

the sweetest sadness
when we almost had this

do. get. get. with it.

whitestone north tower

this might be called 'thirty one toes'. or perhaps 'do get get'. this one is like that kid you knew who just grew up weird. it should have been on the soundtrack for 'after hours', that odd little nyc flick with griffin dunne and rosanna arquette.

dialogue: (from imdb.com)
Paul Hackett: Which way you headed?
Marcy: Downtown, SoHo.
Paul Hackett: Oh, nice... nice. A loft?
Marcy: Yeah, she's a sculptress. Lately she's been making these Plaster of Paris bagel and cream cheeses.
Paul Hackett: Really...
Marcy: She's tryin to sell 'em as paperweights. You wanna buy one?
Paul Hackett: Paperweights?... uh, yeah I would. How much are they?
Marcy: I don't know. Well, if you think you might be interested, her number is 243-3460.
Paul Hackett: 243-3460.
Marcy: Her name's Kiki Bridges.

christina on guitar and vox. yours truly on liveloops and keys.

lyrics:
i am oh so paranoid
writing up the list of do's and don't's
i don't swear in front of children
but i do inside my car

call the ambulance
i've broken every rule again
i am
addicted to addictions deeper than your average cigarette

i guess you do get what you do get get with it my little pet
i guess you do get what you do get get with it my little pet

and these things they say are good for us
they're doing us no good
cause i am much worse off since making resolutions 5 years past
i will give up everything i love exchanged for time that spent
punching clocks and punching walls until my knuckles hurt like heck

i guess you do get what you do get get with it my little pet
i guess you do get what you do get get with it my little pet

sultronica it is......(plus updated audio/video links)

charity twirls

i've always liked not only the music tagged as 'trip-hop', but the actual name 'trip-hop' as well. but when i id our music as 'trip-hop', or 'acid jazz', people generally just nod politely.

in response, the mad, _mad_ scientists in the hba testing labs have (while using their own genetic material) concocted this brand new, never before heard, genre-defining-genre-name, 'sultronica'.

[not 'sLutronica' (see peaches for that], but 'suLTronica', ie: soul music plus electronica == sultronica (on bad days we may offer 'sulktronica' instead).

obviously the very existence of this exciting new genre will necessitate that you spend your entire thanksgiving weekend re-classifying all of your portishead, sneaker pimps, morcheeba, lamb, tricky, massive attack, beth orton and bjork. i'm quite sure that you'll thank us for that later.

doug smith joined us saturday night, graced by his kurzweil, and helped us make this (mp3 audio). a gentlemen's gentleman, a musician's musician, and, for that matter, a gentlemen's musician, that is doug. look for contact info in the comments .

this [certified chillworthy] jam starts with an original called 'rhythm', then proceeds to mash up/rip thru 'smooth operator', 'tom's diner' and 'criminal'. lots of live looping and vocals colliding with each other.

'rhythm'
-----------
take time to take time
to turn round and
drop it drop it

phat beats like a cold heat
and you can't stop or block it block it
seeps in from your head to your toe

i hear it from the tunnels below
i hear it from the people above it

rhythm of a radical invasion of a patience that's unfounded in the world of a fast pace
rhythm of a radical invasion of a patience that's unfounded in the world of a fast pace
rhythm of a radical invasion of a patience that's unfounded in the world of a fast pace
that trades its soul for new wheels and a nice place

so take time to take time
to sit back and see it, see it
these dark days, the black haze, and you won't believe it
but my eyes have seen and my ears have heard
and every word was a lie
your ancestors, your grandfathers
and your mother's lullaby

rhythm of a radical invasion of a patience that's unfounded in the world of a fast pace

and we've got ali chambliss (the formidable) as our guest backup vocalist on lines blur (audio), our brand spankin' new ode to identity theft.

heal technology with your mind

my favorite pick, my favorite slide

i made this when i got home tonight. i now have so much "movie" music that i am going to have to make one. leave a comment if you want to be in it.

this song will play while the heroine is letting the evil dude think that she's having too much to drink, causing him to drink too much, allowing her access to his blackberry, upon which she installs a rootkit which she'll use later to foil his sinister* plot.

* (left-handed)

(another 'heal technology with your mind' movie scene that comes to mind is in 'mallrats', with the vcr, silent bob, and the force)

(and now i'm remembering 'les triplettes de belleville': under the bridge, after the ocean journey, with the bicycle wheel, and then the triplets). (not that that has anything to do with healing technology with your mind).

old lady trapped in a young lady body

it's true. i battle with these two versions of myself constantly. part of me wants to slap on some go-go boots and dance like it was 2099 (by the time 2099 hits, we'll probably have 4 fingers, just finished up world war 5 (we lost), and reeses peanut butter cups will come in capsule form>. the drugs of choice will be jars of grease and we'll smoke up saturated fats. they'll be like "yo, man, can u pass the globules?")

what?

oh yes, back to my old lady syndrome. so part of me is like "party lady" and the other part of me wants to swear wool sweaters in june, go to bed @ 8:30, drive below the speed limit, and make sure my bowel movements are regular. what happens when these two parts of me combine? well, all i can say is that they somehow coexist. i'll be listening to gangsta rap full blast on my car radio, while driving 50 m.p.h. in the slow lane, hunched over the steering wheel, squinting. i can wear semi-fashionable outfits, but underneath lies a world of cotton underwear and mangled bras. i've also been know to hike up my "stockings" to just under my breastbone. i worry about what's in tap water.

i wonder if anyone else out there deals daily with the coexistence of their paralell selves. anyone? anyone? i'd feel a lot better and not have the urge to hit "backspace, delete" if this proves to be true.

November 12, 2005

shivershake

shiver shake session

this (video, windows media) is tonight's contribution.

lyrics:
shiver and shake
shake and shiver
slowly break
slowly come into your senses

there is some space
between sleep and awake
where the ?????
ends in tenses

cause hell is like a handshake
hell is like a handshake

letting it go and i know what i know
never estimate the outcome
taking it in like a breath overdue
i had you but only barely

cause
hell is like a handshake
hell is like a handshake

it's rainin' through your fingers
it's rainin' through your fingers

chord progression vaguely ripped off from chuck prophet's fine, fine song "pin a rose on me". (link to free download)

in chinatown today i noticed this and shot it for you:
excuse me. i believe you have my stapler.

November 10, 2005

persimmon

this is the song.

this is christina's persimmon rant:

We'll name her something funky like Persimmon, and call her Persie for short. i will devote entire emails about her. I'll write to you and be like "You won't believe who Persie and I saw today! We were coming out of StarFucks with our latte ya ya soy ga gappucinos...and none other than Doogie Howser walks in! I kid you not! And Persie goes "Hey Doogie, your name rhymes with Spoogie." And Doogie's like "Doogie Howser isn't even my real name. I don't even have an acting career anymore." And Persie stares at him for like 5 minutes and says "but doogie still rhymes with spoogie."

and this is the (windows media) video. quicktime here.
